Common Disneyland Paris Mistakes (And How To Avoid Them)

First time heading to Disneyland Paris? Get ready for the magic—and a few rookie errors if you’re not careful.

Even seasoned park-goers (hi 👋) still get caught out now and then. I’ve been to Disneyland Paris more times than I can count, and I’ve made—and seen—plenty of rookie mistakes.

From missing the fireworks because I was too busy chasing snacks to underestimating how long the queue for Crush’s Coaster can get… I’ve definitely learned a few things the hard way.

This guide covers the most common Disneyland Paris mistakes people make and how to avoid them. If you’re aiming for a smooth, fun, and actually relaxing park day, these tips will help.

⏱️ Short on Time?

Don’t forget to book tickets early, download the app, and check wait times before you go. Comfy shoes, a flexible plan, and sticking around for the fireworks make all the difference.

Mistake #1: Not Booking Tickets in Advance 🎟️

I’ll just grab tickets nearer the time.
Yeah… you and the other 40,000+ people heading there that day.

Disneyland Paris welcomes around 27,000 to 28,000 daily visitors in the main park, plus 14,000 to 15,000 in Walt Disney Studios—so turning up without tickets? Let’s just say that’s ambitious!

You can’t buy tickets at the gate anymore—even flexible-date tickets need to be booked in advance. And with dynamic pricing, the earlier you book, the cheaper your day will be.

Every time I see someone post in a Facebook group begging for last-minute tickets, I wince—because I’ve nearly been that person. It’s a quick way to go from excited to panicked in the space of a refresh button.

Book online ahead of time. It saves money, stress, and avoids any awkward “so… what now?” chats at the park entrance.

🕓 Left it late? You can sometimes still find last-minute availability for 1 day and multiple day tickets on GetYourGuide. It’s not guaranteed, but it saved a few friends of mine when the Disney site showed nothing left.

🎁 Bonus tip: If you’re planning to stay overnight, check out the hotel + ticket packages. They’re usually better value than booking separately—and way less hassle to juggle.

Mistake #2: Ignoring the Disneyland Paris App 📱

If I could make one thing required before entering the park, it would be downloading the Disneyland Paris app. It’s free. It’s essential. And it will 100% save your day.

Skipping it is one of the most common (and most avoidable) mistakes. You wouldn’t believe how many people still show up without it, only to end up lost, late for shows, or stuck in queues that could’ve been avoided.

Here’s what the app helps with:

  • 🎢 Live ride wait times (game-changer)
  • 🍔 Mobile food orders at quick-service restaurants
  • 🧚‍♀️ Book virtual queues for Mickey, Stitch, and the Princess Pavilion.
  • 🗺️ Interactive park map with toilets, meet-and-greets, shows, and restaurants
  • ⏰ Showtimes + parade schedules so you don’t miss a thing

You can also find info on planned ride closures and refurbishments – nothing worse than walking across the park to find your must-do ride fenced off for the week.

Check the app a few days before and again on the day—things change last minute sometimes.

Spend ten minutes playing around with it before your trip. Honestly, it’s the easiest prep you’ll do—and it makes a massive difference once you’re inside the park.

Mistake #3: Underestimating Wait Times ⏳

It’s easy to assume you’ll just bounce from ride to ride and meet a few characters along the way—but without a plan, you’ll end up spending half your day in queues.

I always check last year’s wait times on QueueTimes.com before I go to get a realistic idea of what to expect. If it looks like a busy day, cut down your ride wish list and focus on your must-dos.

Crush’s Coaster regularly hits 90 minutes, and Big Thunder Mountain, Spider-Man, and Peter Pan aren’t far behind—especially on weekends and school holidays. Character meet-and-greets can be just as tricky.

For Mickey, Stitch, and the Princess Pavilion, you’ll need to join a virtual queue through the app. It opens a few times a day, and spots go fast, so keep checking.
For other characters—like Peter Pan, Captain Hook, or Winnie the Pooh—it’s still the good old-fashioned turn-up-and-wait system. No shortcuts, just patience.

In the park, keep an eye on the app (told you it was important!) and be flexible. Following wait times instead of a set route means more walking—but usually way more done. And yes, getting there early still makes a huge difference.

💡 Need a backup plan? You can buy individual Premier Access passes in the app. They’re not cheap (up to €21), but they can save you loads of time on the most popular rides.

Mistake #4: Overpacking or Under Packing 🎒

It’s a fine line between being prepared and becoming the family pack mule.

I’ve done both extremes—lugging around half my suitcase “just in case,” and forgetting essentials like plasters, snacks, or a raincoat because I was trying to pack light. Both were equally annoying.

Too much stuff slows you down, gets in the way on rides, and gives you sore shoulders. Not enough? Cue overpriced ponchos, sunburn, and stress.

You don’t need loads, but the right items make all the difference. Here’s what I always pack in my Disney day bag:

  • 🥤 Collapsible water bottles
  • 🧦 A change of socks
  • ☔ A light raincoat
  • 🩹 Plasters
  • ✨ Hand sanitiser (the Disney bug is no joke)

Check the weather before you go and dress in layers. If there’s even a hint of rain, prep for it—my full Disneyland Paris in the rain guide has all the dry ride options, packing tips, and photo spots you’ll want to know about.

And seriously—comfy shoes are non-negotiable. Cute sandals won’t look so cute after 20,000 steps and a loop around Frontierland in the rain.

Mistake #5: Thinking You Can Waltz Up to Walt’s 🍽️

You don’t have to book fancy meals at Disneyland Paris—but if you’re after one of the more boujee dining experiences (like eating next to Remy in a giant plate or watching pirates float by at Captain Jack’s), you’ll need a reservation.

Restaurant slots aren’t impossible to get—but on busy days, trying to find one last-minute can feel like searching for Nemo in the Great Barrier Reef. If there’s somewhere you’ve got your heart set on, book through the official website or app as early as you can.

📅 You can book up to 2 months in advance, or as soon as your trip is confirmed if you’re staying in a Disney Hotel. It’s quick, free, and saves you wandering around hangry hoping something opens up.

That said, you absolutely don’t need to sit down for every meal. Quick service works brilliantly—and it’s often cheaper, faster, and more flexible.

We love Earl of Sandwich in Disney Village for subs and salads that aren’t just chips with a side of burger.

Personally, I like to mix it up: one sit-down if we’re feeling fancy, then quick bites or grab-and-go the rest of the time.

💡 Thinking about the Meal Plan? It’s not essential, but it can help with budgeting. I’ve broken it all down in my Is the Disneyland Paris Meal Plan Worth It? Guide.

Mistake #6: Missing the Grand Finale 🎆

If you’re leaving before the fireworks… are you even doing Disneyland Paris properly?

The night-time spectacular is one of those moments that makes the whole day feel worth it.
We’ve been lucky enough to see so many variations of the show over the years, and it still takes our breath away every single time. I’ll pop a video from our most recent trip in June 2025 below so you can see what I mean.

That said, it’s easy to miss or mess up if you don’t plan ahead. People start grabbing spots well in advance, and it gets crowded fast. If you’re not in place early, you could end up stuck behind someone’s balloon (or five).

We highly recommend standing near the gazebo at the top of Main Street for a few reasons:

  1. It wasn’t too busy, even on our summer trip
  2. You’ve got easy access to the exit once it ends
  3. The Main Street buildings light up in sync with the show—and it’s absolutely tear-jerking.

Another great spot is on the pavement near the hot drinks stand (warm hands + great view = win-win). My niece sat on a bin, which gave her the best view in the house without having to go full shoulder carry. Genius.

💡 Once the show ends, use the arcades behind the shops instead of Main Street. You’ll avoid the bottleneck, skip the crowds, and get out much faster.

Don’t make this the thing you skip—it’s the perfect ending to your day, and a memory that sticks with you long after the lights go out.

Mistake #7: Overplanning Your Day 🗓️

Look—we know we’ve thrown a lot of info at you so far. Rides, snacks, fireworks, apps… it’s a lot.

But let me be really clear: you do not need a minute-by-minute itinerary to enjoy Disneyland Paris. You don’t even need a strict plan. What helps most is just having a rough idea of what you want to get out of your trip.

Trying to do everything in one visit will leave you stressed, hungry, and wondering why you’re marching across Fantasyland at 3pm with a blister and no coffee. I’ve done that, and spoiler—it’s not magical.

Last year, we took my niece for her very first trip. My sister had tried to plan everything to a tee, and I lost count of how many times I heard her apologise when things didn’t go exactly to plan.

But the thing is—my niece didn’t care. She had the best time, whether we stuck to the plan or not.

This year, we went back with zero plans and zero expectations—and it was actually better. We followed our feet, made decisions in the moment, and had one of the most relaxed, fun park days we’ve ever had.

That said, a vague idea of your must-dos can still help. I’ve got a free Disneyland Paris Day Planner you can download to help you sketch it out. Nothing rigid—just a little something to keep your top priorities in mind.

And if things don’t go to plan? That’s okay too. Some of the best moments at Disneyland Paris are the ones you don’t plan for.

Mistake #8: Forgetting How Accessible Disneyland Paris Is ♿

One of the biggest misconceptions I see about Disneyland Paris is that it’s not very accessible—but it’s actually one of the most inclusive places we’ve been.

If you or someone in your group has mobility needs, sensory sensitivities, or health concerns, there are so many systems in place to help make the experience easier and more enjoyable.

View from reserved area

Some of the key accessibility features include:

  • Priority Access Cards for guests with physical or non-visible disabilities
  • Bambi Bands for expectant parents, because yes, you can visit Disneyland Paris while pregnant.
  • Wide entrances, step-free access, and well-spaced queue areas in both parks
  • Plus-size friendly seating on most rides (no tight lap bars or awkward restraints) – we have a full guide here!
  • Plenty of toilets, including accessible and companion options, never too far away
  • And staff who are genuinely brilliant—patient, well-trained, and happy to help if you need extra support or information

💡  If you’re nervous about crowds or unsure what to expect, I’ve also written a full post on Is Disneyland Paris Safe? that walks through everything from security checks to personal experiences.

There’s no one-size-fits-all solution, but DLP does a pretty great job of giving people the tools to tailor their day to what works for them.

So if you’ve been hesitating or worried it might be too overwhelming—don’t write it off. Disneyland Paris might surprise you with how thoughtfully it’s set up.

Mistake #9: Overlooking the Hidden Magic 🐉

Disneyland Paris isn’t just about rides and shows—it’s packed with little secrets hiding in plain sight.
From dragons under the castle to submarines in Discoveryland, there’s a lot more going on than most people realise.

Even Main Street has surprises tucked into its nooks and crannies—blink and you’ll miss them.

We’ve lost count of how many times we’ve spotted something new, even after years of visits.

🧭 Want to find the things most people walk right past? I’ve rounded up our favourite hidden details, quiet corners, and secret spots in this Disneyland Paris secrets post. It’s like your own little treasure map.

Mistake #10: Thinking You Need to Spend a Fortune 💸

Let’s be open—because we’re all friends here.
The first time I took Callum to Disneyland Paris for the day… we spent £400.

How?! Still not sure. But between snacks, impulse souvenirs, Premier Access passes, and “oh let’s just get one more thing” moments, it added up fast.

And while we had a great day, we walked away knowing that something had to change. That kind of spending just isn’t sustainable for most people—us included.

From that trip onwards, we made small swaps that made a big difference.

We started grabbing quick service kids’ meals (they’re massive and half the price), stopped buying ears in the park (you can get great ones online), and joined Facebook groups where people resell or leave items behind at hotels for others to pick up.
I even found a Disney jacket on Vinted that I now wear every trip.

And if you’re going with little ones—don’t pay for pushchair hire. Check out the Pass on a Pushchair Facebook group. People regularly offer theirs up to other families for free or cheap.

Now, we set a rough daily spending limit, treat ourselves to one or two extras, and enjoy the parks without the post-trip guilt.
You really don’t need to spend a fortune to have a magical time—you just need to be a little bit clever about where your money goes.

Mistake #11: Neglecting Transport Logistics 🚆

Now for the boring bit! Transport isn’t the most exciting part of planning a Disneyland Paris trip, but if you don’t figure it out in advance, it can cause a lot of unnecessary stress.

We’ve had our share of hiccups over the years—shuttles that didn’t run late enough, airport transfers that took longer than expected, and one too many “are we on the right train?” moments.

But once we started prepping our routes ahead of time, things got a lot smoother.

To make life easier, I’ve written full, step-by-step guides based on our own trips:

And if you’re wondering where the best places to stay are, we recommend our list of off-site hotels with free parking shuttle, or on-site Disneyland Paris Hotels list.

Taking five minutes now to plan your journey can save you from a lot of confusion later. Disneyland Paris is magical—but only if you can actually get there without the drama.

FAQs: Common Disneyland Paris Mistakes

And if this post hasn’t already made you feel a little bit more confident…here are some FAQs!

❓ Can I do Disneyland Paris in one day?

Yes—and it can be brilliant. You’ll need to prioritise, use the app, and be realistic about what you’ll fit in (don’t try to do everything).
We’ve done it loads, and our one-day DLP guide is packed with time-saving tips if you’re aiming to squeeze in the highlights.

❓ Is Disneyland Paris good for adults without kids?

Absolutely. We go as a couple all the time, and it’s just as fun without little ones. Think big rides, cocktails in the Marvel bar, slower mornings, and fewer meltdowns. Plus, you get to choose your snacks without sharing. Win.

❓ How can I save money at Disneyland Paris?

Start before you even get there—compare ticket prices, pack snacks, and join Facebook groups where people share second-hand merch or offer free pushchair rentals.
In the parks, kids’ meals are cheaper (and huge), and you’ll often find better souvenirs online or in Disney Village.

Oh, and don’t forget: you may be able to get VAT refunds on your purchases with SkipTax—here’s how it works → Disneyland Paris SkipTax Guide.

Final Thoughts

No Disneyland Paris trip goes perfectly—but a little prep goes a long way. If you’ve made it through this list, you’re already ahead of the game. Pack smart, plan just enough, and don’t stress if things go off-script. The magic still finds you.
