Through My Lens | Prague in the Snow

I won free flights to Prague—so I packed a bag, grabbed my phone, and flew off solo into the snow.

It was January 2018, and I’d never done a proper winter trip on my own before. Just two days in the city, but I squeezed in a lot: wandered the Christmas markets, warmed up with chocolate beer, took a day trip to Terezín, and joined a free walking tour to hit the big sights.

Oh, and I got fined for not validating my tram ticket. Classic me. (Read this before you make the same mistake).

This photo was taken along Smetana Embankment, right by the Vltava River, just before sunset.

The snow had settled, the light was golden, and the bare trees cast long shadows across the path.
The bench was empty.
The city was quiet.
It was one of those moments where everything just clicked.

How I Took This Image

📱 Camera: Samsung S8

📆 Time of Year: January 2018

🕒 Time of Day: Late afternoon

📍 Location: Smetana Embankment, Prague

🎨 Editing: Adobe Lightroom –
subtle tweaks to contrast and warmth to bring out the glow on the snow

💡 Photo Tip

Snow changes everything—especially in cities you’ve seen a million times in summer. Look for soft shadows, reflective surfaces, and little moments of stillness you might miss when it’s busy. And always keep your camera (or phone) ready… even if your fingers are frozen.
