Through My Lens | Venice Gondoliers
This trip wasn’t supposed to include Venice.
It was booked thanks to €20 return flights to Verona—a cheap weekend away for a new couple who’d only been together three months.
We arrived on a Friday afternoon in April 2022, looked at the outrageous taxi queue at Verona Airport, and decided on the spot to hire a car. By Saturday, we’d spontaneously driven to Venice because… well, why not?
That day was all about wandering the backstreets on a tight budget. We grabbed a gelato, searched for bubble tea, and accidentally spent €90 on two cokes and two sandwiches by sitting down to eat in Piazza San Marco (top tip: read this before you go).
Around 3PM, on our way back to the car park, we crossed Ponte dei Bareteri, a quiet stone bridge tucked between San Marco and San Polo.
Just as we did, a gondolier floated into the frame and I launched Callum out of the way to grab this shot. Romance is alive and well.

💡 Venice Photo Tip
The best shots in Venice aren’t on the Grand Canal. They’re in the quiet corners—where the light hits just right and gondolas surprise you from around the bend.
Keep your camera ready and don’t be afraid to elbow your travel buddy out of the frame.
